What a week!

Well this past week sure was a interesting week. Last weekend while daddy was rendezvousing, Evs and I had a girls weekend with my mom, auntie Steph, and cousin Julia. We had fun enjoying foods from around the world, cocktails, farmers market, shopping, and lots of laughs.
Has had enough farmers market, and ready for a nap. Girl time makes one lil red head exhausted.
Unfortunately our special weekend, and daddy's birthday took a rapid turn and went downhill quickly Saturday. Rambo was not breathing well, and foaming up blood when we got home that afternoon. We rushed him to the 24 hour animal hospital, thank goodness our strong neighbor, and best buddy Danny, was home and able to lift Rambo into my jeep. I don't know what we would have done without him.  After 12 hours in the hospital, we found out Boo Boo had lyrengial paralysis, and pneumonia. He was in critical condition, and we didn't know if he was going to make it. His lungs were functioning at less than 30%, due to all of the fluid that was filling them up. The next 12 hours were crucial, as we opted to treat the pneumonia, and not fix the paralysis. That surgery would have been way too hard on an almost 91 year old dog. We wondered over and over, if we were making the right decision.
We were not allowed to visit Rambo Monday, as his body needed to rest and stay clam. That day and Tuesday were such long and heartbreaking days, not knowing if we were doing what was best for our fur baby, and were we going to lose him.
We spent many hours during the day, and into the late late night, loving and encouraging Rambo to stay with us, heal, and make one small step in the right direction. Some visits it was enough to get  him to open his eyes,  lift his head,  sit up, raise up, stand up, take a step, walk on his own, and then finally eat food.
Well late Thursday night, he ate food, did laps at the hospital, and went for a quick walk outside. All without heavy labored breathing. They thought it would be possible to have him come home Friday, granted he responsed well to an oral antibiotic they would switch him over to. He did respond, and we brought a medicated, yet happy, Rambo home that afternoon.
Our hearts weren't as heavy, we exhaled sighs of relief, our shoulders slowly lowered, and our home felt as it should. We knew we made the right decisions to make sure this long time furry friend was comfortable, and able to be in our home.
None of us were ready to say good bye, and we all fought hard to make sure that didn't happen. I truly believe without our visits, love, and tlc, Rambo may have given up, and died of a broken heart.
As annoying as pets can be as they age, and as you have human children, these four legged friends inadvertently become less of a priority. It was a huge wake up call how good this dog has been to us, how much he needs and wants us, how much we need and love him, how much Evs loves him,  and how we all have so many more good times to share as a family. Our hearts are happy, and all feels as it should!!
So make sure you give your loyal furry one some extra tlc today, they need and depend on our unconditional love. You never know when something unexpected could happen to them.
Hard to see in the pic, but when I went to visit him, his eyes filled wih tears. Here is one rolling out of his eye:(
Time to rest and recover at home :)
